Ganga is worshipped in India as a goddess. Kashi, an ancient city on the bank of Ganga, also known as Banaras or Varanasi is one of the holiest places of Hindus. The Kashi vishvanath temple is also situated here. It is believed that if last rites are performed here on Ganga ghat, the Moksha is attained. The world famous Ganga Aarti is performed daily in the evening at Dashashwamedh Ghat and attended by thousands of devotees including foreigners. The chanting of Bhajans and ringing of bells and offering of aarti to Ganga is a treat to eyes, ears and soul.
